One in Spirit is a teaching resource developed around God given direction to New Life Community Church. It marks a season of transition as we move forward together in fulfilling the purposes God has set before us as a body of believers in Leighton Buzzard. The leadership believe God is asking us to be creative and radical in our passion to fulfil our roles as individuals, having desire to be led by His One Spirit without compromise. Risk and challenge are sometimes uncomfortable but we all are called to grow together, to exhort, encourage, admonish and love each other, to share in our highs and our lows. We need to be open, honest, humble and selfless; to make Jesus our number one priority.
Over a period of 7 months starting in September, the leadership feel God is asking us corporately to commit to addressing our priorities and to demonstrate He is our number one priority. Not simply with our tongues but also with our minds, our bodies, actions and our heart. Through scripture we have learned that we have a responsibility to each other, a need for each of us to be working in line with the calling we have each received, for the good of many. The teaching series aims to equip us with the TRUTH and TOOLS needed for church life. As we individually become increasingly sensitive to the Holy Spirit and as we choose to be obedient, God’s desire for our town and Nation will be carried out. It means we must be a collection of disciples, servants and sacrifices to Him; and that we are One in Spirit.
Along with sharing of vision will be comprehensive examining of scripture to clarify the foundation on which this body is built. There will be opportunity to expand and explore in Cell Groups. There will be a requirement to actively practice (discipline!) BEING part of the body of Christ; to be willing to explore and use gifting that has been entrusted to you. Your commitment to God’s work will be evident in the use of your 3 Ts (Time, Treasure & Talents). Scripture is clear about the need for commitment in these areas. Be prepared as you actively seek God’s will in your life to consider how your use of these things needs rebalancing to reflect your commitment to follow Him.
We at New Life are not about simply doing Church. We want to be church: an active, fulfilled and relevant, powerful body of people in line with scriptural teaching about how the body must function. Many people are worried that this framework for church excludes them because they feel they have nothing to offer. Let me encourage you that this is not true. The truth is that what God has given people to offer in many instances hasn’t had space to bloom in the traditional church format. As Christians we have come to believe that in order to do something valuable in church we must have a bold personality and a stand up and speak or sing gift. This is a robbery of what Christ died for. All parts of the body offer something; something they do (and love to do) better than the other parts. Just be willing to realise things might just be a whole lot simpler that you thought! The cost of following Christ is everything you are, have and own! But let’s not forget the reality that all of those things plus all the treasure, time and talent in the world wouldn’t come close to the price He paid… for you. Where there is unity there is power! Are you ready to serve?
